Oarsome Challenge raises more than £40,000 for London Youth Rowing
Tideway staff took part in a 16-mile rowing challenge earlier this month in an event that raised around £40,000 for charity.
The latest ‘Oarsome Challenge’ saw seven Tideway crews (among the total of 23) row through central London between Greenwich and Chiswick on July 10 and 11.
As in previous years, the event was a huge success and raised much-needed funds for London Youth Rowing (LYR), a charity dedicated to encouraging disadvantaged young people to be active, improving their physical, social and mental wellbeing.
Combined with matched funding contributions from Tideway, project staff raised £10,000 toward the total.
Matt Rostron of LYR said: “Yet again the Tideway project came out in great numbers to support the event – given the project is so well advanced, this was fantastic to see.
“The weather generally played ball, apart from a pretty gruelling head wind on both days – well done to everyone for completing the course.
“Thanks their efforts, this money will help more young people in London and beyond to get active and improve their wellbeing through rowing and other water sports.”
