TBM Ursula hits 5km mark

TBM Ursula hits 5km mark

Ursula, the eastbound tunnel boring machine (TBM) launched from Tideway's Kirtling Street site, has passed the 5km mark on her subterranean journey through London.

The giant tunnelling machine has approximately 2.5km left before breaking through into the shaft at Tideway's Chambers Wharf site in Bermondsey.

The second TBM to be launched from Kirtling Street in Battersea, Ursula will construct the largest section of the main super sewer tunnel.

Along her way, Ursula has already passed famed London landmarks including the Palace of Westminster, the London Eye and Big Ben. Before reaching her final destination she will pass below London Bridge and Tower Bridge deep underground.

Millicent, the westbound TBM launched from Kirtling Street, completed her 5km section of tunnel late last year.
