Falconbrook Pumping Station

Site information

Falconbrook Pumping Station is largely an existing Thames Water pumping station site. This site encompasses the pumping station, a disused public convenience and a small area of York Gardens.

Falconbrook Pumping Station

September 2019

Work is progressing well at Falconbrook Pumping Station. We are continuing with piling works to shape our interception chamber that will connect the Pumping Station to our new tunnel. Piles are augered into the ground, a technique that requires an auger drill to excavate a hole before concrete is poured to create the pile.

We recently completed piling to shape the first 13m of our 42m deep shaft on site. A total of 53 piles were augered into the ground. The next stage for this work is to install a capping beam around the shaft perimeter, a reinforced concrete structure on top of the piles holding them in place. This will require us to break down a number of the concrete piles using either a cutting and break, splitting or wire saw technique.
