Want to get back to work? Tideway is on the look-out for more talented professionals wanting to restart their careers after an extended career break, following the successful launch of the Tideway Returner Programme last year.

With a variety of challenging and exciting roles based across London, more opportunities have become available for a full-time paid 12-week
internship starting on 19 April, 2016 for people who have voluntarily been out of the workforce for 2 years or more.

We recognise your need to get back up to speed after a lengthy break, so throughout the programme you will receive coaching support from Women Returners, the experts in helping professionals to re-launch their careers; you will also be supported through formal and informal networks.

At the end of the programme you will be ideally placed to apply for permanent or interim roles in the organisation or its partner organisations.

Who are we looking for?

Successful candidates will have had a 2+ years voluntary career break from the workforce and will have a successful track record in a relevant discipline. You will need to have a passion for the legacy we will leave for London, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and enjoy using your expertise to solve problems. The roles will be primarily office based, requiring a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week.

Returner roles for 2016

Senior Administrators

We have a number of Senior Administration roles. You could be working within the Health and Safety Directorate where you will help administer our flagship Health and Safety Programme EPIC or supporting our Innovation Manager to manage our programme of activities, co-ordinating the team and providing secretariat duties for our Innovation forum and Early Career Professionals Committee. The IT department would also welcome applications from an experienced administrator to help manage the day to day activity of a busy team.

We also have administration roles in our Construction teams, where you may be managing contracts or site documentation such as drawings or planning consents.

Skills and employment co-ordinator: This is an important role that involves co-ordinating a project linked with the legacy delivery for the Tideway project with a focus on recruitment process and targets and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) volunteering.

Likely previous knowledge & experience: Administration, Secretarial, PA, Project administration, HR or recruitment administration, contract administration, document control within a busy office or site environment. You should have past experience of using Microsoft office (word and excel), emails and diary management – but we will get you back up to speed if needed.

Copy Writer

Working within the Communications and External Affairs Directorate, you will write copy for a range of media (Staff publications, Internet, Intranet, speaker notes and briefings etc) building on agreed Project messages to a range of internal and external audiences.

Likely previous knowledge & experience: Public Relations, Journalist, Internal/External Communications. Key to success will be to have a passion and enthusiasm for the Thames River.

Quality Engineer

The role will be primarily involved in the delivery of the internal management system audit schedule and supporting the development and implementation of the Quality Management System.

Likely previous knowledge & experience: Internal/external audit, project administration, project management, Senior Administration, Quality, Business Process Improvement. Key to success is a logical and pragmatic approach to systems and process with a keen eye for detail and good organisational/planning skills. Previous working knowledge of Microsoft office and Visio an advantage, but we will get you back up to speed if needed.

HR Assistant

We are looking for an HR Assistant to handle a variety of HR and recruitment related administrative duties including managing and maintaining HR records and data and preparing Key Performance Indicator reports.

Finance Manager (April or September)

We are looking for a Finance Manager to work across a range of activities including financial analysis in such areas as forecasting, budgeting, audit management, cost control, Tax, VAT and reporting.

Likely Previous knowledge & experience: Chartered Accountant, Construction based financial roles, Project Finance, document control within a busy office or site environment and management experience. Previous working knowledge of Excel and finance systems required but we will get you back up to speed as required.

Construction Project Manager

Working within a Construction Delivery team, you will provide project management support to ensure that construction delivery is managed with your assigned area of responsibility to time, budget and quality.

Likely previous knowledge & experience: Direct management of site team and subcontractors during project delivery on site as a project manager or similar. You will have had past experience of using project management and reporting tools, but we will get you back up to speed if needed.

Project Coordinator

Working in a small team, this is a varied role working with our Senior Project Manager. Initially the role will have a heavy emphasis on document control, however the focus of the role will broaden throughout the placement to support all aspects of project management.

Likely Previous knowledge & experience: Document control, project planning, project management. Experience with Excel and Primavera (or a similar project planning tool) is desirable but we are happy to support training if required.

Likely Employer/Location:  Amey at our Paddington Office with some travel to other central London offices as required

Assistant Project Manager – Business Process

Liaising with key stakeholders in our parent company, this role will develop and map clear workflows for all of our project delivery workstreams. There is also scope to develop this role to support commercial, finance, health and safety activities depending on skills and experience of the candidate.

Likely Previous knowledge & experience: This is an opportunity for someone who may have experience in a general management role or specialist management role in functions such as commercial, health and safety, finance, HR or business process improvement. The ability to establish relationships across a broad range of stakeholders is key along with sound IT skills in word processing and spreadsheets (we will give you time to get to grips with our IT software!).

Environmental Sustainability Advisor

The role will support the Environmental Sustainability Manager in the collection and assurance of evidence to demonstrate our compliance to various external sustainability commitments and to provide technical support to various internal teams on current, and future, best practice with regards to sustainable material selection and construction methodology. You would also provide support to the various other environmental subject matter experts on a range of topics covered within the EIA and assessments tools, such as BREEAM.

Likely Previous knowledge & experience: Environment Manager or Advisor for a major contractor or infrastructure provide (rail/transport) or worked client side in a similar role. Previous knowledge of assessment tools required but we will get you back up to speed as required.

Site / Section Engineers (April and September)

Working as part of the delivery team we have an opportunity for a Site Engineer. This technical role, organising and supervising construction activity, from acting as technical advisor, checking plans, ensuring work and materials are per specification and liaising with construction colleagues.

Likely Previous knowledge & experience: Qualified civil engineer, surveyor, structural engineer. Previous experience in a similar role within a Major Civils project is essential but we will help you get back up to speed if your technical knowledge is rusty.

Likely Employer/Location: Main Works Contractors - London locations

Project Manager - Commercial

Provides project management support for the Commercial team in the management of issues relating to the framework with our External Stakeholders (including Defra and the Environment Agency) as well as the interface issues with Thames Water.

Likely previous knowledge and experience: Programme/ Project Management ideally on large/ complex infrastructure projects, Commercial Negotiation, Management of Commercial Legal Agreements.

Information Technology/Information Systems Roles

We have a wide range of technical roles within our Information Systems function. These range from IT Programme Management, Application Development, Architecture, IT Training and Project management.

Commercial Manager

This is a management role within a busy commercial function. You will be involved in the day to day management of the following activities: QS, supply chain, contract administration, contract administration, cost capture and control and reporting.

Likely previous knowledge and experience: Commercial management within a construction or large project environment. Team management, Construction Project management, QS.

Likely Employer/Location:  Costain – London locations

Quantity Surveyor

Working as part of a busy commercial tam who will be involved in the full range of QS activities from applications, valuations, cost control and forecasting, reporting to supply chain management.

Likely previous knowledge and experience: Quantity Surveyor, commercial manager within a busy infrastructure project environment.
