Barn Elms

Site information

As part of the works we have replaced one of the changing room buildings at the Barn Elms Sports Centre with new, modern and improved facilities ready for use. The main site works have now begun following its completion.

Barn Elms

In April 2019, the team at Barn Elms completed the new changing rooms and handed the keys over to London Borough of Wandsworth. In July 2019, the old changing rooms were demolished to gain access to the main construction area.

Around the changing rooms, the site team completed the turfing works in August 2019.

The end of October saw the site team complete the 34m deep excavation of their shaft. They are now preparing the site to start the tunnelling of the 212m connection tunnel.

The connection tunnel will be created using a Pipe Jacking Machine, which was delivered to the Barn Elms site at the end of October. This connection tunnel will join up to the main super sewer. You can read about the delivery of the Pipe Jacking Machine here.

Our Barn Elms team are committed to managing our works and mitigating any impacts. Examples of measures we currently have in place include:

  • Hoarding has been erected along the site boundary

  • Netting has been be erected above the hoarding to prevent balls from the playing fields entering the construction site

  • Access and construction activities is minimised during times of heavy recreational use of the playing fields.

  • Various other measures including using electric gantry cranes where practicable and electric forklifts are being used to reduce noise

  • Onsite concrete batchers and static concrete re-mixers are screened and not used outside standard hours

  • Concrete breakers are not to be used at night (22:00 to 08:00) except in cases of emergency

  • Set limits to control activities, such as noise (Section 61 approval) from LB Richmond
