Tideway rowers help raise more than £50,000 for charity
Amateur rowers participated in a pan-London charity rowing challenge this week helping to raise more than £50,000 for young people.
The ‘Oarsome Challenge’ saw nearly 200 people climb into eight-person boats and row 16.5 miles along the River Thames from Greenwich to Chiswick.
Tideway, the company building London’s super sewer, had two teams in the event, while its project partner Amey had one – taking the total to 22 boats.
Each was challenged with raising as much as possible, with the money going toward London Youth Rowing (LYR), which helps young people improve their wellbeing and learn new life skills through rowing.
With Tideway match-funding the rowers’ own fundraising, the project crews will have raised more than £5,000 for LYR.
London Youth Rowing CEO Matt Rostron said: “Tideway has been involved in the Oarsome Challenge since the start and some of those taking part in 2024 have done it five or six times – an amazing effort. Thank you so much to everyone who took part and who donated – it really does make a huge difference.”
