Carnwath Road Riverside (Hammersmith and Fulham)
Carnwath Road Riverside (Hammersmith and Fulham)
This site is made up of two parts; a main site (which includes Whiffin Wharf, Hurlingham Wharf, Carnwath Road Industrial Estate and an area of the River Thames foreshore) and a small highways work site.
While there is no combined sewer overflow being intercepted at this site, it will be used to drive the main tunnel to Acton Storm Tanks and receive the main tunnel from Kirtling Street. It would also receive the Frogmore connection tunnel driven from Dormay Street.
We have commenced welding works on our piles at the river wall. These are required to absorb and reduce any potential impact from our barges once the tunnelling begins. These works will run for approximately 8 weeks.
On occasion, due to tidal conditions, we may need to complete these works outside our core hours and have been granted permission to work between 06:00 – 22:00 Monday to Friday as required. Read More
With the shaft excavation near completion, we need to carry out a base plug pour which is essentially pouring a large amount of concrete down to the bottom of the shaft. This will help support the shaft before the tunnelling.
The concrete pour will start around 7pm on Friday 7 September and may take up to 96 hours to complete. Once we start it is essential the concrete is poured continuously, therefore concrete lorries will be arriving on a 24-hour basis until the pour is completed. Read More

What are our working hours?

How will we use the river?
We have committed to using river transport as much as possible to reduce the number of heavy goods vehicles on the roads.
For Carnwath Road Riverside we anticipate an average of two barges overall per day, and potentially a peak of four barges per day, subject to the tides, with each barge taking approximately 45 heavy goods vehicles off the road.
An anticipated daily average of 19 heavy goods vehicles will access the site. This will rise to approximately 45 per day for about 17 months during the main tunnel construction.
It is proposed that approximately two-thirds of materials will be moved by river and approximately one-third will be moved by road.
