Hammersmith Pumping Station (Hammersmith and Fulham)

Hammersmith Pumping Station is an existing Thames Water pumping station site. The proposed site covers the pumping station and part of the Fulham Reach development (currently under construction) and minor highway works.

The site will be used to intercept the existing Hammersmith Pumping Station combined sewer overflow.

Works update

In June, we started 24-hour working, which will be from 8am Monday until 8pm Friday. This will take approximately five months to complete. Vehicle movements to and from the site will be limited to core hours only. Read More

On Monday 30 July, we will be undertaking a concrete pour as part of our tunnelling works. With the warm weather we are currently experiencing, it is essential that we avoid pouring concrete when weather temperatures are at their highest, as the heat may affect the quality of the concrete.

Therefore we will begin the pour at 7am, aiming to complete this by midday. Read More

Hammersmith Pumping Station - Site Information

What are our working hours?

Standard working hours are 8am to 6pm Monday-Friday and 8am-1pm Saturday.  Also, there is a 1 hour mobilisation period before and after the Standard Working Hours, plus maintenance periods on Saturday 1-5pm and Sundays 10am-4pm.

There will be approximately nine months of 24-hour working. However, activities will be predominantly below ground.

How will we access the site?

An anticipated daily average of six heavy goods vehicles will access the site for the majority of the construction period. This will rise to approximately 20 heavy goods vehicles per day over an estimated three-month period during the construction of the shaft, which will be during early 2018.

Hammersmith Pumping Station - How we will minimise disruption

  • The contractor will liaise and coordinate with the Fulham Reach Developer regarding community liaison and communications with local residents and stakeholders
  • Hoarding is erected along the site boundary
  • The site offices are positioned along the northern boundary of the site to screen Chancellor’s Road from construction activities
  • Except for the anchor piles, push piling will be used, unless determined to be impossible
  • The anchor piles will be installed at a suitable location as far away from the closest sensitive receptors as practicable
  • The use of surface cranes will be minimised outside of standard working hours
  • Set limits to control activities, such as noise (Section 61 approval) from LB Hammersmith and Fulham
