Roof slab caps off shaft at Acton
The Acton Storm Tanks site for London’s Super Sewer has marked another milestone with the casting of the cover slab above the 30-metre shaft.
The concrete slab follows work on the benching and other internal structures within the shaft and installation of the precast roof beams.
Benching is the shaped concrete at the bottom of the shaft which will safely steer sewage into the tunnel and avoid the build-up of debris once the new sewer is operational.
Above ground, installation of the ventilation column segments has also been completed.
Acton Storm Tanks is the farthest site west on the Tideway project and incorporates an existing Thames Water pumping station and storm water tanks.
This site marks the start of the main tunnel and is intercepting the existing Acton Storm Relief combined sewer overflow.
