Tideway engages schools to encourage the next generation into STEM subjects and to champion careers in engineering and construction
Partnerships with educational outreach organisations such as the Construction Youth Trust (CYT), Uptree and Skills Builder have been at the heart of our STEM engagement programme. Tideway has funded programmes and provided volunteers for events engaging young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, from London and beyond. Our Main Works Contractors collaborate on these events, as well as running their own.
Our programme has ranged from engaging primary school pupils to supporting modules on a Masters course at UCL’s Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction. We support the Construction Youth Trust (CYT) by offering work experience placements to year 10 and 12 students in a number of areas – via our Main Works Contractors for core construction and engineering, and in our client team for major project corporate functions such as legal, finance, communications and sustainability. If you are thinking about work experience linked to a career in our industry, the CYT website has lots of useful information.
We have also created Tunnelworks, a free online resource which offers interactive science and maths lessons for primary and secondary school-age pupils, to raise interest and uptake in STEM related careers, develop employability skills in young people, and to support the broader curriculum.
